It was another weekend, nearly 10 years back on Aug 30,2003. I along
with 4 guys were staying in Kotturpuram, purchusing our Master's degres
in nearby "CEG,Anna Univ".On this moderate hot sunny day I woke up at
only 8:30PM. one of my roommate was reading our famed newspaper "The
Hindu" in doorstep of our room. With his permission, i got front page of
the newspaper. The Story appeared on the front page of the newspaper
attracted me."Gazi Baba' killed in encounter: BSF Opening paragraph read
like this,"In what is being claimed as one of the biggest successes for
the security agencies in Kashmir, Shah Nawaz Khan, also known as Gazi
Baba, a Pakistani terrorist and the mastermind behind the December 13,
2001 attack on Parliament, and the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and
several other fidayeen (suicide) attacks in the State, was killed in an
encounter today".

After 3 days, again similar headlines appeared on the front page of "The Hindu" saying "Village Guards put a brave fight against militants".Öpening Para read like this "Militants today carried out a series of attacks across Jammu and Kashmir specifically targeting the security forces, three days after the killing of the Jaish-e-Mohammad leader, Gazi Baba."

When Afzal guru hanging date was confirmed to be on Oct 20 2006, Valley separatist leaders threatening to launch a big protest. Ghulam nabi azad, chiefminister of JK during that period, suggested his death penalth should be postponed or to be converted to life imprionment. He argued to the central Govt that "Since the hanging date was on last friday of Ramzan month of that year, people will get furious over the date chosen". There was heavy hue and cry in delhi also with Yasin malik and Arundhati roy leading the protest.Afzal Guru finally applies for Mercy petition with President Dr Abdul Kalaam.Afzal wife, meets Abdul kalam with his son and his mother in law.His son informs the president that he wants to be doctor like his father(who dropout from medicalcollege), but his dreams will be shattered if his father is hanged.

He Writes letter to hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in chaste urdu, says he “deeply regrets” applying for mercy.” He also accepts he have a role in 2001 parliament attacks

Finally he was hanged on Feb 9 2013. When BJP,RSS and other parties were celebrating his hanging, indefinite curfew was announced in the 10 districts of the valley.
Fearing of the protests, Union Home Ministry sends letter to his family about his execution through Speed Post and it reaches after 3 days from his execution!!
In Tihar, officials feel ‘tinge of sorrow’ for his hanging
